Reddish Knob Butterfly Walk

PictureEastern tiger swallowtail. Photo © Jeannie Holden
Date:  Sunday, August 25
Where:  Briery Branch Lake  (west of Bridgewater)
Time:  10:00 a.m.
Expect a 3-hour experience.

Please join us for a look at the butterflies of the high ridges of Shenandoah Mountain . We will be looking at species that are found in this high mountain environment and some species, including Monarchs, likely to be migrating through.

We will meet at Briery Branch Reservoir at 10 a.m. and explore the open areas along the road adjoining it. After (hopefully) a bald eagle fly-by “sendoff “, we will work our way up the mountain stopping at Briery Branch Gap , the Flagpole Knob area, and just below the summit of Reddish Knob to walk and seek out many potential species.

The trip will led by John Holden, Virginia Master Naturalist, and Jeannie Holden, photographer .
