Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition in cooperation with the North River District of GWNF, the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, and the Federal Highway Administration completed a reroute of the Wild Oak Trail on Hankey Mountain.  The old trail was steep and badly eroded.  The new trail has a much better tread and will be more sustainable.   We congratulate those did the hard work and provided the funding for this big project.  All who hike, bike, hunt, or ride horses on this trail will appreciate the improvements.

A good way to check out the new section of trail is to start at Wild Oak Parking Lot and take the Wild Oak Trail across the North River and up Hankey Mountain to the summit and all the way to junction with Shaffer Hollow Trail.   You will enjoy beautiful views along the way.
