Dominion Proposes Alternate Pipeline Route across Shenandoah Mountain

8/9/2014

Dominion has proposed an alternate pipeline route that crosses through the edge of the proposed Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area.  The proposed route crosses from Highland County into Augusta at Signal Corps Knob, about 1 mile south of Rt. 250 (Cow Knob Salamander habitat), and then goes down through Georgia Camp (Civil War camp). It crosses Ramseys Draft (native brook trout stream) outside the Wilderness boundary, crosses 250 just east of the new bridge now under construction, passes through the edge of the Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area proposal, then across Braley Pond Road (popular camping, picnicking, fishing, hunting, hiking and mountain biking recreation area), under the Calfpasture River (another trout stream) and up Dowells Draft forest road (a popular hiking, horseback riding, and biking route), and on over the flank of Hankey Mountain through the Chestnut Knob Grouse Habitat Improvement Project.  It passes within a mile of the eastern end of the Staunton Dam tunnel that supplies Staunton with municipal water, and then on north of Churchville, then south of Staunton and over the Blue Ridge.

See the new route and come to the Augusta County Board of Supervisors meeting on August 13 at 7 p.m.in the Augusta Government Building in Verona to hear Dominion's presentation and their answers to questions from board members, but not the public.  See both pipeline routes on Augusta County Alliance's web page.
