In response to the Forest Service rejecting the ACP route over or through Shenandoah Mountain, Dominion has submitted an alternative route that bypasses Shenandoah Mountain completely on its southern end and then heads northeast through the Deerfield Valley to West Augusta where it reconnects with Dominion's preferred route. The new route still crosses Ramseys Draft stream, scenic Rt. 250, the access road to Braley Pond, and Hankey Mountain before heading toward Churchville, Stuarts Draft, and the Sherando area. And it still passes close to our proposed Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area.
This new route may protect Cow Knob Salamanders, which are found in higher elevations on Shenandoah Mountain, but it would still a have negative impact on special areas of the George Washington National Forest that are important for water, wildlife, and recreation.
