Dominion's new ACP route poses problems

PictureMap showing new alternate ACP route in relation to our proposed Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area. Map by Elise Mazur.
The new ACP route proposed by Dominion in February 2016 bypasses Shenandoah Mountain on its southern end by going into Bath County and then heading northeast into Augusta County through the Deerfield Valley, reconnecting with Dominion's preferred route at West Augusta.  The new route is no better than the old.  It crosses Ramseys Draft stream, the Cowpasture River, scenic Rt. 250, the access road to Braley Pond Recreation Area, Dowell's Draft Trail, and Hankey Mountain before heading toward Churchville. The 42-inch pipeline would pass through the gateway to our proposed Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area, degrading scenic beauty, recreational experiences, water quality and wildlife habitat.

This map by JMU Geographic Science student Elise Mazur, shows Dominion's new proposed route in blue and the older route across Shenandoah Mountain in red.  Many thanks to Elise for volunteering her time to make this map!
