What could be more fun that sitting under a sycamore tree at Natural Chimneys Park for three days, listening to some of the best roots music in the country, and meeting interesting people. For the 4th year in a row, Friends of Shenandoah Mountain exhibited at Red Wing Roots Music Festival in Mt. Solon, which ran from July 8-10.
We had a steady stream of visitors at this beautiful venue at the foot of Shenandoah Mountain. Our goal was to educate people about the proposed National Scenic Area and its benefits: clean water, healthy outdoor recreation, and wildlife habitat. Several business owners decided to endorse our proposal right on the spot, which is a great help to our campaign.

On Saturday morning FOSM partnered with PATC - Southern Shenandoah Valley Chapter to offer hikes. Twenty-five festival goers went on a hike with us. The group on the left hiked to a lookout point on Grooms Ridge Trail in our proposed Little River Wilderness. The view is of Reddish Knob.
We also offered handpainting for children, with a choice of Cow Knob Salamander or Gaywing wildflower. This was popular with adults, too.
During the 3-day festival, supporters had a chance to let us know what they like about Shenandoah Mountain. Look at the gallery below to see what they had to say.
We had a great time meeting people and making new friends for the Shenandoah Mountain Proposal. We are very grateful for all the volunteers who helped make it possible, and we especially want to thank the festival organizers for inviting us.
