The 550-mile Atlantic Coast Pipeline proposed by Dominion Resources is a very real threat to the natural, recreational, and water resources on Shenandoah Mountain. It cuts through the southeastern portion of the Shenandoah Mountain Proposal in the Braley Pond - Hankey Mountain area. If the pipeline is approved, it could make a portion of the Shenandoah Mountain Proposal ineligible for designation as a National Scenic Area. It would also degrade the Ruffed Grouse Habitat Management area on Hankey Mountain that FOSM has pledged to support as part of the GWNF stakeholders' agreement.
Dominion initiated the pre-filing process with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on Oct. 31. Friends of Shenandoah Mountain submitted comments asking FERC to deny the permit on Nov. 13.
